Winter Beauty – Petit Jean Photos by Artist, Keith Newton

Frozen Waterfall_2011 copy It's cold.

I'm a warm weather lover, I must admit. I want to stay inside more in winter (unless there's potential for sledding down a good hill)  & that brings its challenges, as being outside is where I often feel most at home. The greatest personal value in winter, for me then, is reflection.

If you're feeling cooped up, experiencing some winter "blah" & in need of inspiration, here you go!

Keith Newton is a gifted artist. He shared some photos of his latest hike at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas with me. He was fortunate to be there during the snow & captured the perfect beauty of winter.

I'm awed by these images, so I thought I'd share them with you.Snowy Ice Lake_2011_(c)

Here's a great Valentine's Day story, too – the Legend of Petit Jean. Read about the young woman who followed her beloved to this place from France, disguised as a boy to avoid detection on the journey. She's said to have eventually died here. She asked that she be buried overlooking the river where she spent her last days.

Besides his talents as a nature photographer, Keith Newton is also a craftsman, creating beautiful hand-turned bowls & one-of-a-kind furniture from wood. More on Keith in future posts. In the meantime, do yourself a favor & enjoy more of his photography & woodworks on his website!
